I am interested in the in-vitro modelling of the knee joint, using multiple cell types to mimic the joint environment in various health states. We have developed an indirect co-culture model in which characterised cells from regions of the subchondral bone, with and without pathological changes, are cultured with donor-matched chondrocytes, to investigate the effect of bone health on the cartilage forming capacity of the chondrocytes. I am hoping to use the network to build on my knowledge of the in-vitro modelling of disease and identify new methods for doing so.
