I'm interested in developing a human myometrium (uterine smooth muscle) organ-on-a-chip model to use for preterm birth-related research, with focus on finding out what uterine stresses initiate spontaneous labour, both at preterm and term gestation. This is important for reducing/replacing use of animal models, which are known to not correlate well with human pregnancy, and to conserve the use of hard-to-obtain myometrium biopsies (particularly for preterm births).
