Mucosal immunology, Inflammation, Crohn's disease, Ulcerative colitis, Candida, γδ T-cells
The McCarthy lab studies host-pathogen interactions at mucosal surfaces, with a particular focus on γδ T-cells and their role in gut barrier protection against microbial infection and inflammation. Crucially, the human γδ T-cell compartment differs significantly from that present in mouse models, and the microbes that colonize the intestine of each host are also distinct. We are therefore keen to explore the use of Organ-on-a-Chip approaches to study the anti-microbial functions of human γδ T-cells 'in vivo'.
