My research background is in cancer and two rare diseases affecting intestine and cornea. Organs-on-a-chip are a leading edge technology that provides human-relevant models for more accurate prediction of human disease mechanisms and treatments. This appears particularly relevant in cancer and rare diseases, where animal models do not necessarily emulate the whole pathological progression of a specific human disease. So, understanding pathological mechanisms of disease in human emulating systems is particularly relevant for assessment of new compounds as potential drugs for treatment of human diseases in real patients.
