We have developed some novel 3D systems for the study of breast cancer cell invasion and proliferation. These incorporate ECM proteins, microfluidics and aim to recapitulate the interstitial fluid pressure present within solid tumours. We are using these models to evaluate effectiveness of small molecule chemotherapeutics as well as larger molecules and to evaluate how different breast cancer subtypes respond to treatment in a more physiologically relevant system. We would like to further develop our model to better represent the "organ-on-a-chip".
