The adrenal gland controls a plethora of crucial physiological functions, and dysfunction is associated with severe morbidity. Patients with adrenal Insufficiency need life-long management with exogenous steroids: this can be challenging as no drug suitably mimics the diurnal pattern of cortisol, and measuring the quality of replacement therapy is problematic. Fine-tuning of replacement therapy leaves only a narrow margin for improvement. We seek to improve current treatment options for patients with adrenal insufficiency in addition to working towards the ultimate goal of a cure by transplantation of patient-derived, gene-corrected adrenal organoids.
