My research is in the area of medical microsystems and biosensors. One reason why I have an interest in organ-on-a-chip technology is that it would allow me a means of rapidly testing and assessing the safety of medical microsystems and biosensors and hence relatively inexpensively and quickly iterate the design. Furthermore, the potential for disease model development in organ-on-chip devices, especially those related to gastrointestinal disease, would enable me to gauge the diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy of these miniaturized devices.
