I am interested in network opportunities to work with other to develop improved models of gut function. I work in both malnutrition and obesity where evidence suggests the complex function of the gut in digestion/absorption of nutrients, barrier function and immune function all play a role in these conditions. We don't have good enough models of this at the present time. I am also interested in other tissue models where metabolites produced by the gut microbiome may play important roles e.g. adipose and liver where insight is limited to animal studies. My expertise in stable isotopes perhaps also adds a novel aspect to the network to provide tools to validate models in vivo studies.
